About Isabella

Isabella

I have been quilting for about 13 years. I am also a licensed mechanical engineer. I think it is the structure and graphical nature of quilting that appealed to me initially.

I am constantly inspired by nature and the things around me.  I try to recreate in my quilts the colors and textures in nature or interesting shapes I find in architecture.  My current work is evolving to a more abstract style expressing emotions rather than a literal portrayal of landscapes and scenes around me.  While I am still inspired by nature, I try to express the moods that nature and my more urban environment inspire in me.  Using a wide variety of fabrics from my own hand-dyed fabrics to upholstery fabric to drapery sheers allows me to create the textures and patterns that capture the feelings I’m trying to express.

I love the tactile nature of fabric and making the fabric do things not originally meant to do.  Fabric is meant to be used for functional items and making art for the wall makes my work new and different.  With fabric as my medium viewers come to my work with a different perspective than they have towards more traditional art.
